ABOUT BERNICE FREEDMAN

Hello, Woburn Neighbors!

BERNICE'S BACKGROUND

Bernice was born in the Philippines and immigrated to Woburn with her family in 1991 at the age of 12. She is a proud graduate of the Kennedy Middle School ('93) and Woburn High School ('97). She was a peer mediator, a DARE role model, captain of the tennis team, and a member of Youth in Government and the Marching Band Color Guard. Her experience writing for "The Tanner Banner" led her to pursue journalism at Emerson College.


Bernice started working in radio news even before she graduated college in 2001. She worked for several radio and TV stations in Massachusetts and New Hampshire, including WGIR-AM, WMUR-TV, and WBZ News Radio 1030 where her coverage of the Boston Marathon Bombings contributed to the station winning an Edward R. Murrow Award.


In 2018, Bernice decided to take a new career path, working in media relations at Massport. Her journalistic skills combined with her passion for creative communications led to her current role as Assistant Director of Strategic Creative Communications. She was one of the founding co-chairs of the agency's Multicultural Employee Resource Group and a 2023 graduate of the Partnership Inc. Fellows Program. She's currently pursuing a yellow belt in Lean Six Sigma for Government, a methodology combining Lean and Six Sigma principles to improve efficiency, eliminate waste, reduce errors, and optimize processes within government agencies.

PRIORITIES

Bernice's vision for the Woburn School Committee is rooted in the belief that every child deserves access to safe schools and quality education. She aims to prioritize transparency and community engagement to reach inclusive policies. She is determined enhance educational resources and promote a supportive school community. Bernice is driven to create a thriving educational landscape that empowers every student to reach their full potential.
